Times Up

Hi all,

As I'm sure most of you know, or maybe you didn't, this week was a huge week for Wheaton Women's Basketball in more ways than one. It was our final week which also meant that we had senior day on Saturday. We started off on the road against MIT where it happened to be their senior night too, unfortunately we were not able to pull out an upset that day and so we began preparing for our last game of the season on Saturday against Mt. Holyoke; and I'm more than happy to report that we got a huge true team win! The atmosphere was amazing, we had a great crowd, great support from family and friends, and the under-classmen did a fantastic job of decorating the gym. Here are some pictures:

Even the Lyon got some much deserved recognition!

This day truly was amazing and exceeded all of my expectations, and getting such an awesome win was a true testament to just how close this team has become and how much we all care about each other. There are honestly no words that I can put together to describe these past four years of playing collegiate basketball at Wheaton. The lessons I've been taught, that I've learned, and will forever take with me are beyond invaluable. The friendships that I have formed I plan on taking with me for many years to come, the laughs that will forever remain in my memory, and the sights, sounds, and smells that consume the sport I love will travel with me wherever I end up. I want to take this opportunity to thank my coaches, teammates, friends and loving family for all the support that they have given me, its been incredible. Although this is my last post, I will definitely be around for the next few years to cheer on my teammates as they pave a path to the NEWMAC championship; a feat that I have no doubt they will conquer. Thank you to all of you who have tuned in and took the time to read my blog and stay up to date with everything our team has done this year, although I'm not sure yet who will be the blogger next year I'm looking forward to reading theirs and staying up to date. Unfortunately, although basketball has ended school work hasn't so I'm off to finish the rest of my homework. Until next time...

SuperStorm Nemo

Hello all,

I hope everyone fared well during this massive snowstorm that happened just this past weekend, here on campus I would say we got around two feet or so, enough to cancel classes both Friday and Monday as well as our Clark game that was scheduled for this past Saturday. To go along with that we had two games this past week, one against Wellesley on their home court and the postponed Clark game that we played yesterday at home. Unfortunately both games did not equate to a win and they were games that we definitely should of had in the bag. However, in addition to the Clark game yesterday, we had the little Easton girls that we have worked with before come and support us with not only their presence and voices but they also made us little Valentines Day gifts of gum and a team picture; it was absolutely adorable. Below is a picture of the snow that fell covering Haas in addition to the Easton players, take a look:

As always, we are extremely grateful for all the thoughtful support we get from our fans. And that is definitely going to be needed in our last two games of the regular season (I can't believe I just said that). We set out to face MIT on Wednesday and then we end the week with our senior day on Saturday against Mt. Holyoke; both are must win games. We hope to see you at one or both! Until next time...

Update Part Two

Hello again,

Since the mid-week update we had our second game of the week against nationally ranked Babson on Saturday. Unfortunately, our big plans of upsetting them and ruining their NEWMAC win streak fell through and we were not able to pull out a win. In other news of what we did last week, we mentored and worked with the 3rd and 4th grade girls basketball players from Easton (hometown of Emily) and had an absolute blast with them! These kids were full of energy as you'll see in the photo below:

Also at the beginning of the week we had a team bonding activity of Zumba with one of the music professors at Wheaton, Professor Searles. It was so much fun, however, I'm definitely not one of the most skilled people when it comes to dancing so you'll probably be able to pick me out of the photo seeing as I am one of the only ones without any rhythm. Regardless, it was a great experience and exciting to try something new:

Today we started preparing for the week ahead with strict focus on Wellesley who we will face on their home court this Wednesday. With an intense film session and focused practice tomorrow, we look to get back on track starting off on the road. Until next time...

Mid-Week Update

Hi all,

I know this is not my usual posting time, but this update is definitely well worth it. As you may know, or not know, yesterday was our Play4Kay game in the collegiate effort to continue the fight against breast cancer. After we spent all day decorating the gym, painting nails, and promoting the event against a formidable WPI opponent, we were ready to play. Not only was the event such a huge success with our donations exceeding our goal of 500 dollars (earning 525) and a great crowd but we got a HUGE win against WPI sweeping them in our two-game series this year, a feat that has not been accomplished in quite some time. Here are some pictures from yesterday:

Thank you to all who supported us in whatever way that you guys did, it truly was a fantastic day. Now we have to start preparing to beat Babson this Saturday! Before I sign off, I would like to give a quick shout out to Kenzie Kuhn for making the Academic All-American Team! (The link is provided below) Talk to you guys soon.

NEWMAC Round Two

Hi all,

I hope everyone has been braving this crazy winter weather we have been having, makes me very happy that basketball is an indoor sport. Speaking of which this week continued our stanza in the second round of NEWMAC play with two games, one against Coast Guard on Wednesday and the other yesterday against Smith College. Unfortunately, both turned out to be hard and heartbreaking losses but to take a good situation out of the bad, we out-rebounded Smith College by 20 which is not nearly as sweet as a win but is definitely something to be commended for as it's a sign as to how hard the team played; and we certainly did.

In other news, on Friday night we went to go watch coach Nate play in his varsity basketball game where they got a big win. Giving the credit to our cheering section of 15 plus one very well decorated sign would be wrong, however, I like to think that we had some help in sparking the team. Coach Nate and his teammates played a great game and we had lots of fun as well, we look forward to hopefully making another game if we can.

What's next to come this week are two more conference games, one home against WPI on Wednesday and the other at Babson on Saturday. The game on Wednesday also happens to be our Pink Zone/ Play4Kay Cancer Awareness game. For more information on it and after reading the article if you so feel compelled to donate for the cause, I provided a link below:

The team will be sporting pink socks (the ones we wore in York if you saw the picture) and we encourage anyone who comes to cheer us on to wear as much pink as possible, it's going to be a great day! Well, seeing as tomorrow marks the first full week of classes, I unfortunately (but not in the least bit surprised) have homework to do. Until next time...

January Break Wrap-Up

Hello again,

And so this post marks the ending of my last January break at Wheaton College. Although watching Glee almost everyday was fun to do in my spare time, I for one am looking forward to having the secure structure of classes and basketball back. On basketball news, we had a great team win against MIT this past Wednesday that turned into an overtime thriller; overcoming a large deficit we were able to dig in and pull out the victory in the end. Our last game of break consisted of an overnight trip at Springfield where we were fortunate enough to enjoy the Basketball Hall of Fame, a great Italian dinner, and a nights stay at a local hotel before taking on Springfield College at 10am on Saturday. There are some great pictures at the end of this post. Unfortunately, as great as the trip was we were not able to finish with a win which was the major reason for the business trip. Now, with only eight games left in the regular season, we look to bounce back at practice tomorrow and finish out the season strong making a hard run at the post season. Enjoy the pictures! Until next time...

January Break Update

Hello all,

What a busy week it has been, this is just going to be a quick update of the past few games that we have had and then at the end of this week hopefully there will be more pictures. Since the last time we talked we had four games, the first one we had a phenomenal win against Springfield college and then three tough losses to Wellesley, Clark, and as of tonight Tufts who is ranked 6th in the nation. Wellesley and Clark were two hard fought battles down to the very end and even though we lost to Tufts tonight, we out rebounded them which is definitely something to take note of. Tomorrow we prepare during practice for a tough conference game against MIT on Wednesday and then wrapping up this winter break with an away trip to Springfield College, that game being on Saturday; both should be very exciting games. Stayed tuned at the end of this week for updates and much more! Until next time...
